Developed with free movement, excellent fit and security in mind, Lowe Alpine backpacks are ready for any climbing or mountaineering adventure. In 1967, founder, Greg Lowe designed ‘The Expedition Pack’ – featuring a unique internal frame and side compression straps, as well as a host of never-before seen components – changing the face of backpacks for demanding terrain. As we move to celebrate our 50th anniversary, our innovations shape the way we create the products that define and inspire us

Born From Necessity – Styled By Innovation

In the early days of the brand, the Lowe brothers; Greg, Jess & Mike were instrumental in establishing the founding principles of their products. Centred on the evolution of climbing, their products were some of the most important developments of the era and helped the brothers tackle some of the toughest rock, ice and alpine routes in the world

The Expedition Pack

The more you explore, the more you learn and develop. The first technical backpack was created in the basement of Greg Lowe’s parents’ house in Utah in 1967 and it’s been leading the way for technical backpack design ever since

The First Technical Backpack

Through continued development, with a keen eye for detail and inspiration from the alpine routes, the ascent range is created from expertise. Made for the mountains and packed with 50 years of knowledge and experience, the new range ensures you’re ready to face any vertical challenge

The First Technical Backpack

The pack was designed for climbing - it had a flexible internal frame, sternum strap and side compression. The new design kept the pack stable, supportive and lightweight. All modern, internal framed packs are a descendant of the Lowe Alpine 'Expedition' pack.
