Black Diamond Index Ascenders

Summary

Black Diamond Equipment have issued a recall – subject to user inspection – of Index Rope Climbing Ascenders. There is a possibility that some units may have been improperly assembled and could fail during use. This may subsequently result in injury or death.

Details

The rivet attaching the toothed cam to the ascender body may not be properly finished in some cases. If so, the cam could detach and allow the ascender to disconnect from the rope. Likewise, in some Index Ascenders, the rivet attaching the plastic safety catch to the cam may not be finished correctly. The likelihood that the ascender could become detached from the rope is therefore increased.

Products affected

This recall concerns the right and left Index Ascenders manufactured between 22 December 2014 and 25 February 2016 (style numbers 620003 and 620004 respectively). The corresponding manufacturing codes for these items are between 4356 and 6015.

What to do

If you own Index Ascenders that match the above description, Black Diamond has requested that you STOP USE IMMEDIATELY and inspect them following indicators outlined on their website (click here). If they fail inspection, you can bring the item back to your nearest Tiso store for a refund or credit, or you can contact Black Diamond directly. The item(s) will be replaced free of charge.
