Lightwave F2 Ultra Tent
The Lightwave F2 Ultra combines ultralight and high-performance. Weighing in at an incredible 2.5 kg, it nevertheless offers all the weather-beating abilities of the full geodesic design. Thanks to the greater internal volume created by its four-pole structure, the f2 ultra also feels very spacious for a two-person tent, even though it only has the footprint of a t1 or g1. It is uniquely suited for mountain travel, wilderness trekking and lightweight expeditions where low weight and the ability to withstand bad weather are of the highest priority.

Lightwave G1 Ion Tent
The g1 ion is a lightweight two-person, three-pole semi-geodesic tent that is ideal for camping and travels around the world. Having a high-cut fly and large mesh panels on the inner, it is optimised for warmer climates. (You might find it cool in more wintry conditions). Although the flysheet is sufficiently water-resistant for four-season use, its high-cut baseline means the inner is more vulnerable to splashing in hard rainfall. The g1 ion is very light and easy to pitch, but being the smallest two-person tent in the Lightwave range, some people may prefer the larger g2 ion. It nevertheless retains a generous porch area and excellent headroom.

Lightwave was founded by Carol McDermott in 2002, although product development started several years previously. Carol is a New Zealander resident in Britain and France. He has climbed all over the world, with ascents including Shivling, Gasherbrum II, Ama Dablam (solo) and Mount Cook (a dozen times) as well as some epic, unsupported treks in the Karakorum. Carol started Lightwave with the aim of making high-quality, functional and honest gear designed for genuine enthusiasts – people who prefer to think for themselves about the sort of equipment they want, rather than accept the features-driven designs that so many brands insist they need. Lightwave’s functional approach means that all Lightwave products are uncluttered by unnecessary features that add weight and complexity.
