There is also a dedicated in-store mechanic, who boasts the necessary bike shop accreditation Cytech (levels 1-3). Whether a regular face or a new customer, our knowledgeable team – all cycling aficionados themselves – look forward to welcoming you in Stockbridge.
And whilst you’re visiting, take a spin on the Tacx simulator and see if you can challenge the current lap champions (wall of glory to follow!)
I started working here about 8 or 9 years ago as shop floor staff. I applied for assistant manager and one year later was manager. I've always been into mountain biking as a sport and hobby. Initially that was my big thing, now it's road biking. I'm definitely a cyclist and that helps in my job!
You'd be amazed at the amount of tea some of our guys get through! We've got a good team: we get on really well and have a fun time. I'd like to think customers come here because they value our advice.
I started working at Alpine two years ago. My background was in standard outdoors retail... but I’ve always been interested in bikes. I was working at Alpine for a year and the deputy manager’s position came up… the rest is history and now they’re stuck with me! The job is always a challenge and there’s always something new happening.
One of our big markets is road and cross bikes. The cross bikes are so versatile: commuting, weekend riding or cross racing. That’s quite an exciting style of bike – the adventure bike – but road biking is probably what I do most of. I’ve just bought my 6th bike to add to my collection!
I got a job in a bike shop 7 years ago after working in a restaurant and hating it! I worked there for 5 years, and then went to Milton Keynes for a week to take the Cytech tests. I’ve now got all 3 Cytech qualifications.
Alpine requires us to have the qualifications to undertake bike mechanics. I’m the guy in the background that makes everything happen! I like the idea of getting something broken and then giving it back fixed.
I’ve worked in the cycle trade for 5 years. ‘Wacky cyclist moves to Scotland’ is my life in a sentence!
I used to do quite a bit of road racing. I’ve always been into my bikes, ever since I was a kid. When you’re interested in it, you sit and read magazines and all the teccy stuff… My speciality is normally road bikes or full suspension mountain bikes from Trek or Whyte. I’ve done more mountain biking than the other lads. I do it at Glentress or Innerleithen, or sometimes I go to North Wales.
