Built to outlast growth spurts between seasons, the Kids’ Lightning Lift III Ski Jacket has been crafted with Columbia’s OUTGROWN™ grow system, for that inevitable event when your child has grown since the last ski season. Simply snip the thread on the sleeves and they will extend by 1.5 inches, so your child can ski in warmth and comfort for another season. Featuring a waterproof fabric to keep out the snow and rain and padded out with Farenhot polyester insulation to offer warmth from the cold mountain conditions, this jacket is ready for whatever your child is getting up to this winter.
With an attached, taffeta-lined hood and drop tail hem for extra coverage, reflective detailing for enhanced visibility and fleece-lined hand pockets for warming little fingers or stashing gloves, the Lightning Lift III is kitted out with all the features your child needs to excel this ski season.

PFC-Free DWR
Fluorinated DWR finishes make clothing waterproof by repelling water droplets. ‘PFCs’ is the broad term for all fluorocarbon chemicals, of which PFOS and PFOA are sub-groups. Different chemicals in this family have a varying number of carbon atoms, so C6 has six carbon atoms and C8 has eight. While the outdoor industry has moved away from C8 (or 'long chain') PFCs, C6 (short chain) PFCs are currently unbeatable in their waterproofing performance. They're considered less harmful to the environment than C8, but they have not been proven to be safe. PFCs are known as forever chemicals; once created they will never break down and are harmful to people and the planet. To read more about the chemistry related to PFCs, head here.
PFC-Free DWR uses alternative, biodegradable technologies that repels water from the surface of a fabric - such as Fjallraven's Greenland Wax. PFC-Free DWR coatings are water resistant enough for most daily activities, so if you don’t need a highly technical waterproof, consider a PFC-Free garment instead.

Better Work has the same objectives as Fair Wear Foundation and works within the clothing industry, though Better Work is run by the UN’s International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation. There is emphasis on working with the factories to improve labour practices, reducing excessive overtime and closing the gender pay gap. They aim to bring factories in line with ILO core labour standards and collaborate with governments to change national legislation on labour standards.
