About The Checkpoint:
This isn't some delicate road bike made for beautiful tarmac. Oh no. Where we're going, we don't need roads...*
The Checkpoint is part of a growing trend in cycling of all-road, go-anywhere bikes, equally suited to bashing out miles on tarmac as cruising up forest roads and exploring miles of back country paths and access roads. When the asphalt stops, the Checkpoint keeps going.
The Checkpoint design is founded on versatility. The aluminium frame and matching carbon fork have an efficient and comfortable geometry that allows you to pedal mile after mile in comfort, and handle tricky gravel corners. It balances the efficiency of a road bike with the handling of a mountain bike to make a bike ready to explore anywhere.
The frame and fork feature clearance up to a 38c tyre for proper off roading bike-packing adventures, though it comes as standard with a 32c width Bontrager R1 which is a great mostly-on-the-road tyre. Thru-axles and disc brakes promise great handling, especially useful when laden up with everything you need for a bivouac or clattering down a stony fire road. Mudguard and rack mounts mean you can carry everything you need and set the Checkpoint up for light-and-fast touring or comprehensive commuting.
A full Shimano Sora 9-speed groupset is equally at home on the road as exploring the back roads and trails. A wide range of gears get's you up everything and reliability is not a problem. The wheelset is a sturdy Bontrager model with high volume tyres ready for a many miles. The AL 3 is equally ready for a big tour or regular commuting to work.
So who is the Checkpoint for? If you enjoy the exploration and challenge of road riding but want to go further and see something new, if you've ever been inspired by the big self-supported races like the Trans-Continental, if you want to ride all day epics one day and commute to work the next, the Checkpoint could be the one for you.
*Though forest roads, paths and trails would be nice. And we like the odd bit of tarmac too!
