About The Emonda:
Weight. The fact is, the lighter your bike, the faster it's going to feel. Obviously there are some caveats there, but for any given road or climb, less weight means easier and faster riding. That's where Trek's Emonda line comes in.
Emonda was designed to offer the lightest weight possible at every price point, whether racing at the highest level or looking for a big bang for not too many bucks. This SL 5 models sports a 500 series OCLV carbon frame with internal cable routing and direct-mount brakes. The layup ensures no excess material is left and each tube is tuned to reduce vibrations where possible, and transfer power efficiently where it needs to, creating a frame that is stiff when accelerating but doens't rattle you to bits on rough roads. The Trek OCLV carbon fork reduces weight further while providing some vibration damping for more comfort. Quick release axles are light and make for speedy wheel changes when required. Altogether, it's a super high quality chassis with great ride quality. Not all carbon fibre is equal, but you can rest assured the Trek engineers have created a dependable and high performance chassis for which to excel on the tarmac.
Attached to the Emonda are a smattering of quality parts to make the most of your energy. Shimano's 105 groupset is a benchmark for performance verses value with smooth shifting, light weight and great durability. Really, the only difference between 105 and higher specification drivetrains is the weight, but for the money, 105 is truly excellent value. Direct-mount Shimano 105 brakes offer good stopping power and easy setup, plus plenty of tyre clearance too. Bontrager's Affinity wheelset is everything you need to make the most of the Emonda's speed: light, durable and shod with fast rolling R1 tyres in 25c width. Bontrager's own finishing kit completes a classy look and sizes each component to suit the frame size so you get the best fit possible. The lightness of the SL 5 is truly astounding for the price tag, and with Trek's lifetime warranty, it's a chassis ready for many seasons of use.
The Emonda is a real road bike. There's no diluting its purpose with chunky tyres or lower gear ranges, it's a road bike for riding fast on the road. It's efficient when pedalling, sharp but stable handling when descending, and as eager as you are to get where you're going, fast.
