The S/Lab Shift MNC binding from Salomon is the perfect choice for skiers seeking maximum downhill performance and safety, with the option of a walk mode for ski touring. The Shift’s revolutionary toe piece transforms from what first appears to be a conventional alpine binding, to reveal a pin-style (low-tech) toe piece for the ascent. This allows the user to enjoy the uphill with the smooth efficiency of a modern pin binding, before reverting back to a hard-charging alpine binding for the descent.

The Shift was designed in response to feedback from Salomon team riders who were looking for an improvement over traditional frame style touring bindings. The weakness of conventional frame bindings is that they depend on a required structure to connect the heel and toe piece, which in turn has a tendency to interfere with the natural flex of the ski. With its separate heel and toe piece, as you would find in alpine binding, the Shift eliminates this ‘flat spot’ allowing you to progressively bend your skis for perfect carving with every turn.

The bottom line is that the Shift MNC combines a unique design concept with some extremely impressive engineering to bring you the next generation of free touring binding. If you want a walk mode but it’s really all about the way down, this is the binding for you!
