Perfect for those breezy days when a little extra padding is required, the Women’s Down Sweater Hoody from Patagonia is lightweight and windproof. Made from bluesign® approved NetPlus® – a 100% recycled nylon fabric sourced from recycled fishing nets, this jacket helps contribute to the reduction of plastic pollution making its way into our oceans, and a PFC-free durable water repellent not only repels moisture and dirt, but also avoids the use of PFCs - manmade chemicals that are harmful to the environment. With 800-fill power RDS-certified down, the Down Sweater will warm you right up, and is perfectly lightweight and packable so you can stuff it away in the interior chest pocket when the weather warms you up.

The single-pull adjustable hood tightens and loosens depending on how much you need to warm up and there are two handwarmer pockets to tuck your hands, or any essentials you might need, into. Elasticated cuffs and drawcord hem allow you to lock in the heat generated by the down. If your outdoor adventures take you to rockier or more intense terrains, Patagonia includes a repair patch with the Down Sweater Hoody so you’ve got a quick fix on the go should you need it.

We know our customers like to know exactly what they're buying; we're not going to sugar coat it, but we are going to explain it. We've divided up all of the sustainable features we've identified across our product ranges and grouped them into three so you know how your purchase is making an impact: Think Nature, Think Welfare, Think People.

The Patagonia Women's Down Sweater Hoody - Green has the following sustainability attributes...

Think Green Logo
  • Bluesign®

A bluesign® approved product consists of at least 90% bluesign® approved textiles and/or 30% bluesign approved accessories. The aim of the bluesign® system is responsible use of resources, clean processes with controlled air and water emissions, safe processes for the workers and safe products for consumers. Bluesign® is an independent third party and sets out strict criteria for manufacturers and brands to follow to be certified bluesign. By buying bluesign®, you are guaranteed a product that has been made with the least harmful substances possible.

  • PFC-Free DWR

Fluorinated DWR finishes make clothing waterproof by repelling water droplets. ‘PFCs’ is the broad term for all fluorocarbon chemicals, of which PFOS and PFOA are sub-groups. Different chemicals in this family have a varying number of carbon atoms, so C6 has six carbon atoms and C8 has eight. While the outdoor industry has moved away from C8 (or 'long chain') PFCs, C6 (short chain) PFCs are currently unbeatable in their waterproofing performance. They're considered less harmful to the environment than C8, but they have not been proven to be safe. PFCs are known as forever chemicals; once created they will never break down and are harmful to people and the planet. To read more about the chemistry related to PFCs, head here.

PFC-Free DWR uses alternative, biodegradable technologies that repels water from the surface of a fabric - such as Fjallraven's Greenland Wax. PFC-Free DWR coatings are water resistant enough for most daily activities, so if you don’t need a highly technical waterproof, consider a PFC-Free garment instead.

  • Recycled Fabrics

By recycling fabrics, we are not only stopping extra waste heading to landfill but also reducing the need for virgin fabrics to be created. Recycled fabrics can be anything from recycled polyester to recycled cotton and where recycled cotton is used, it's often offcuts from factory floors that would otherwise end up in landfill.

  • Responsible Down Standard

Sometimes using animal products can be a more sustainable alternative than using non-biodegradable plastic, but it is imperative that an animal’s welfare is respected. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) was started by The North Face, Textile Exchange, Allied Feather Down and Control Union. RDS down cannot come from farms that engage in force feeding or live plucking and they must respect the Five Freedoms of animal welfare: freedom from hunger and thirst; from discomfort; from pain, injury or disease; to express normal behaviour; and from fear and distress. Parent farm (the farm where the birds are kept for producing eggs) certification is optional unless the down is harvested there. RDS down is traceable back to source via Track My Down.

Find out more about RDS here: https://textileexchange.org/standards/responsible-down/.

  • Fair Labor Association

This brand partners with the Fair Labor Association (FLA). The FLA has a broader remit and does not just focus on the apparel industry. They aim to protect workers rights around the world and collaborate with universities, civil society organisations and companies to create sustainable working conditions. FLA have their own Code of Conduct based off the UN’s International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) standards. Affiliated companies must implement this Code of Conduct across their supply chain.

Top Tips

Chest is usually the best size predictor for tops and jackets. However, if your hip measurement is larger, consider buying the size indicated for your hips. Likewise, for legwear, hips are usually the best size predictor, but if your waist measurement is larger, consider buying the size indicated by your waist.

How to Measure

Chest: Measure around your chest, just under the armpit.

Waist: Measure around the waist at the smallest circumference.

Hips: Stand, feet together, and measure around the largest circumference at hips.

Fit Guide

Although each Patagonia product is designed and shaped specifically for its intended use, to describe their fits, they use four categories:

Formfitting: conforms to the body’s contours.

Slim Fit: closer-fitting. Slim-fitting technical garments may be worn over baselayers and light midlayers.

Regular Fit: neither slim nor oversized. Regular-fitting technical garments may be worn over heavier midlayers.

Relaxed Fit: drapes loosely on the body.
