The old Shimano R82, which this RT5 model replaced, was an excellent shoe which lasted me years of heavy use. The 42 size of the RT5 that I bought is a half size too big for me whereas the 42 size in the R82 was perfect. The RT5 is bulkier and apart from looking clumsier I can't fit my winter overshoes on them without obstructing the cleats. The oveshoes fitted well on the the RT82. Probably a matter of taste but I preferred the ratchet mechanism of the R82 over the velcro straps of the RT5. While the RT5s are not 'bad' shoes I was disappointed in them and it remains to be seen as to whether their build quality/longevity will match that of its predecessor. .
