Haglofs Essens Mimic Hood, Tested by Tiso Staff - Mollie Hughes, Tiso Blogger

The Review

For Autumn and Winter 2016/17 Tiso are stocking a brilliant new synthetic fill insulation jacket from Haglofs, the Men’s Essens Mimic Hood.

Haglofs are a brand with a long history, originating over 100 years ago in Torsang, Sweden. Haglofs has since grown to become one of the largest suppliers of outdoor clothing, hardwear and footwear in the Nordic region, Europe and Asia.

At the heart of this brand is the key concept of sustainability. Haglofs are voluntary members of bluesign® and the Fair Wear Foundation. The new Essens Mimic hood is bluesign® approved, this means that the jacket is produced to the highest environmental standard available.

The Essens Mimic hood has a whole host of meticulously thought out features to make it the perfect insulation jacket for UK conditions.

The Features

The Essens Mimic Hood is constructed into a mini-quilted design, aesthetically and functionally it resembles a micro-fill down jacket, but contains a synthetic fill insulation. It is lightweight and incredibly warm, but unlike a down fill jacket the QuadFusion™ Mimic material absorbs much less water. Meaning that this jacket will keep you warm even when wet and is able to dry incredibly quickly.

The outer of the Essens Mimic Hood is highly water resistant. In fine rain or snow moisture beads straight off the surface of this jacket. The outer is constructed from a Pertex® shell and treated with DWR (durable water resistance), Haglofs have chosen a fluorocarbon-free DWR for it's environmental credentials.

Another of the great features of this jacket are the shoulder inserts, constructed from Polartec® Powerstretch® allowing for flexibility and breathability. These shoulder inserts are cut in such a way that they allow for upward movement, perfect for climbing and scrambling but also allow for forward and backward movement, perfect for skiing.

The version of the Haglofs Essens Mimic jacket that Tiso are stocking this season is the hooded version. This hood is incredibly warm as it is equally insulated as the rest of the jacket. The hood also has a three way adjustment positioned externally on the back giving a very secure fit.

The Verdict

The Essens Mimic Hood is a great insulation piece for this winter. Its down-like construction makes it lightweight and incredibly warm, but being a synthetic insulation it is also very tough and you don’t have that worry of getting it wet.

With the Essens Mimic’s bluesign® credentials you also receive the peace of mind that production of your jacket has been sustainable and not harmed the environment you love to explore.
