Made from 100% recycled polyester that is Fair Trade Certified™ sewn, the Men's Better Sweater Fleece is your most reliable mid layer that's easy on the environment. Dyed with a low-impact process, this fleece reduces the use of dyestuffs, energy consumption and water usage compared with more conventional dyeing methods.
The Patagonia Better Sweater is exactly what the name suggests. A reliable and hard wearing, cosy fleece that is better for the environment.
A warm, low-bulk quarter-zip jacket made of soft, sweater-knit 100% recycled polyester fleece. Fair Trade Certified™ sewn.
Featuring a sweater-knit exterior and a soft fleece interior, the much-loved Better Sweater® 1/4-Zip is an easy-wearing, moisture-wicking, hip-length pullover that provides bulk-free comfort and warmth for whatever activities you’re checking off the list.
Built from 10-oz 100% recycled polyester fleece dyed with a low-impact process that significantly reduces the use of dyestuffs, energy and water compared to conventional dyeing methods, it has flat-seam construction to reduce bulk and chafe.
A zipper garage on the stand-up collar provides next-to-skin softness, raglan sleeves allow greater mobility and back seams create a classic silhouette. The collar, cuffs and hem are trimmed with shape-holding, abrasion-resistant micropolyester jersey, and a headphone-compatible zippered left-chest pocket secures keys and cash.
It’s also Fair Trade Certified™ sewn, which means the people who made it earned a premium for their labour.

Getting colour into fabrics isn't as simple as you might think. Traditionally, fabrics are batch-dyed, but more brands are becoming aware of the water and carbon saving ability of solution dyeing. That's a 90% reduction in water usage and 96% reduction in CO2 emissions - certainly not to be dismissed. This technique adds pigment to the fibre while the plastic is still molten - so, yes, it is only applicable to plastic based yarns.
A secondary eco dyeing technique is the use of natural pigments. Plant based dyes are sourced from sustainable crops and applied in a cold-water process, which can use 65% less water than traditional methods.
This item is Fair Trade certified. Fair Trade directly improve the lives of the people who make the product you buy. Members of Fair Trade, i.e. the people who grow the coffee beans or make the product, are part of a co-operative. Not only is there a minimum fair price paid for their product, but there’s also an additional premium paid by the brand which the co-operative decides how to spend within their community. It might go towards a well for clean drinking water, better farming equipment or a community school. Fair Trade are strict on their compliance and certification, so you can be safe in the knowledge that a Fair Trade product is from a sustainable, properly paid supply chain.

By recycling fabrics, we are not only stopping extra waste heading to landfill but also reducing the need for virgin fabrics to be created. Recycled fabrics can be anything from recycled polyester to recycled cotton and where recycled cotton is used, it's often offcuts from factory floors that would otherwise end up in landfill.
This brand partners with the Fair Labor Association (FLA). The FLA has a broader remit and does not just focus on the apparel industry. They aim to protect workers rights around the world and collaborate with universities, civil society organisations and companies to create sustainable working conditions. FLA have their own Code of Conduct based off the UN’s International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) standards. Affiliated companies must implement this Code of Conduct across their supply chain.

Chest: measure around your chest, just under the armpit.
Arm Length: with the elbow bent, measure from the centre (back) of the neck to the elbow and down to the wrist.
Waist: measure around the waist at the smallest circumference.
Hips: stand, feet together, and measure around the largest circumference at hips.
