Just like it's big brother, the Rush jacket, the Rush IS is designed for big days of ski touring and back country adventures, but with added insulation for the coldest days.
The heart of the Rush IS is the synthetic Octa-Loft breathable insulation. What's that? Simply put looks and feels like a fleece but it's construction traps air between layers of fabric, just like natural down does, that then forms a barrier with the cold outside and keeps you toasty within. Is it as warm as a down jacket? No, but the Rush IS is for back country adventures where you'll be working hard to get to remote slopes, so it isn't for ultimate warmth, it's there to take away the chill from cold days and keep you warm when you stop for a breather, unlike a traditional hardshell jacket.
The Gore-Tex Pro membrane is waterproof to over 28,000mm hydrostatic head, and with the micro-taped seams, no snow or moisture is making its way in. Gore-Tex is also super breathable, and with added pit zips, no matter how hard you work you can keep your temperature in check. Open the vents for hard climbing and zip up for those powdery descents. 40 denier face fabric is a good mix of light and strong to maximise flexibility and comfort.
The articulated fit is designed to move. Lift your arms up and the jacket stays put across your body thanks to articulated elbows and underarms while the innovative patterning design fits snugly enough for warmth but can handle multiple layering options without becoming too loose or baggy, and still be flexible when you're tearing down the slopes. The powder skirt features strong grippers to keep the snow out, and when paired with a matching Arc'teryx pant you can link the two for a snow proof one-piece garment. Add in a load of useful pockets that don't get in the way of rucksack straps a StormHood for adverse weather and you're set for some fun days out in the wild.
The Rush IS might just be the best ski touring jacket since the original Rush. If you want to get out there and explore on skis, and you value staying warm, this is the jacket for you.
