About The E-150:
Whyte's e-bike platform has been a long time coming; 4 years in fact. However, Whyte have used that time well to create a truly innovative electric bike that takes advantage of the latest technology and really pushes the boundary of electric powered mountain bikes.
Whyte are known for their progressive geometry, and the E-150 is no different. The frame is long with a slack head angle 65 degree head angle combined with a short offset fork and steep seat angle. What does this mean? It means stable handling at high speed (and you will be going fast on this bike) and an efficient pedalling position when climbing. Coupled with 150mm of travel front and rear, the E-150 is ready for virtually any trail you throw it at.
The frame was designed from the ground up around the brand new Bosch Gen4 motor and battery system. This motor is not only more powerful than the previous version, it's considerably lighter, much smaller, and with improved electronics it's smoother and more efficient too. The big points here is that the motor sits really low in the frame, meaning its weight has less effect on handling. The PowerTube battery fits seamlessly into the downtube and is easily removeable too. 4 power modes ensure you can pick between outright speed and distance to suit your riding. All in, it's a well thought out system that gives you 250W of power with minimal effect on handling - the E-150 is right at home on the toughest enduro trails.
With a chassis of this much ability, the right build kit is critical, and Whyte have done a great job. Rockshox Yari fork and Deluxe shock are easily adjustable and strong enough to handle the serious speeds this bike generates. SRAM's GX 11 speed drivetrain is a proven performer and with e-bike specific crankset, it's well able to handle the stresses of the extra electric power. SRAM also cover braking with big 200mm disc and Guide GE calipers providing ample stopping power.
30mm wide WTB rims are shod with 2.5" WTB tyres which help soak up small trail features and keep you planted on big, committing lines. Whyte have gone with 27.5" wheels on the E-150 which really push the handling even further - this bike is all about being a seriously fast, seriously fun MTB and really does take e-bike handling to the next level.
Whyte's own 150mm dropper post, wide handlebar and super short 35mm stem mean you'll have loads of confidence on steep and technical trails, and be equally at home hitting warp speed.
It's cliche to say this is a game changer, but this is one of the first e-bikes that have really nailed the perfect handling found in some enduro bikes. Veteran bike tester Guy Kestevan said of the E-150, "This has to be the best handling e-bike by an absolute country mile. Yes Whyte, Yes!". We concur.
