The travel is a grand tourer in the best sense of the word. Not a lumbering behemoth but a rather spritely and classy bike built for long days in the saddle, lightly loaded, travelling place to place and taking it all in.

The standout feature of the Cube Travel is the hub gear system and belt drive. Shimano's Alfine hub gear offers a wide range of gear ratios all contained within the rear hub, so on the outside, you have very few moving parts. This allows for exceptional reliability and ease of maintenance, while still providing 8 easy-to-use gears. Even better, you won't find an oily chain on this bike. The Travel uses a carbon belt drive which has several benefits for a bike of this sort. Firstly, the belt needs no oil or lubricant, so it's clean - it doesn't get oily, it doesn't rust, it doesn't get squeaky, it just works. So there's no chance of getting oil on your trouser leg, or having to keep oiling the chain to stop rust. Secondly, unlike a standard bike chain, belt drives are much longer lasting - it'll likely go to over 25,000 miles before you'd have to think about replacing. Together with the hub gear, the Travel is virtually maintenance free and super-clean and quiet too. Could you ask for anything better?

With powerful hydraulic disc brakes to keep you in control, a comfortable and ergonomic finishing kit (including a rather nice saddle and supportive grips) and the excellent Schwalbe Marathon tyres for fast & efficient rolling, the Travel is set up for easy riding. The lightweight aluminium frame and fork are tough but good and dispersing vibrations for a smooth ride. Whether you pack a few essentials and hit the road for a week long tour, or load up every morning on the ride to work, its light handling and comfortable ride quality make it a joy to pedal on.

Plus, unlike most bikes, the Travel comes out of the box with nearly everything you need. Full length mudguards, a superlight pannier rack and matching kickstand, plus front and rear lights powered by the front dynamo hub. With no batteries to charge, it's a great system that means you always have light whenever you need it, with barely any extra effort required to power them.
