Trek's Domane AL road bikes are excellent for anyone who is just getting into road biking or on a budget. The Alpha aluminium frame is constructed using clever techniques that leave the weld almost invisible for carbon bike looks at an alloy bike price. One of the things that makes the Domane such a good beginner's bike is its endurance geometry. The tall headtube and short reach put the rider in an upright position with less stress on their arms and neck. This isn't quite as aerodynamic as more race-oriented bikes but it is more comfortable for longer rides. This is great for getting used to riding in the drops and developing bike handling skills on a nice stable platform.

Fit a set of mudguards to keep the road spray off through the winter or a rear pannier rack for the commute or carrying groceries. There is plenty of space for bottle cages too and the Blendr stem can be used to cleanly integrate lights and/or a cycle computer.

The Domane AL 2 is the most affordable bike in the range and it comes kitted out with a 2x8 Shimano Claris groupset. Claris delivers reliable shifting and a good gear range while keeping the cost down.
